Velorail Rules & Regulations

These variations maintain the core message while providing alternative ways to convey the expected standards and guidelines.

The rules and regulations can vary by location, but here are some general guidelines you might encounter:

Safety First

  • Lead Rider: At least ONE adult (18+) with a moderate level of fitness must be on each railbike as “Lead Rider”.
  • Minimum Riders: In addition to the “Lead Rider” each railbike must have at least ONE secondary rider over the age of 16 with a moderate level of fitness.
  • All riders must be seated and have their seatbelts fastened at all times.
  • Anyone considered to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to board a railbike.
  • Distance markers featuring a white label on a black background adjacent to the railway are to help you identify your location in case of an incident or accident.

Respect the Environment

  • Do not stop, lean or climb on the railings of any bridges.
  • Do not place anything on the rails. This could derail a railbike.
  • Do not litter anywhere along the tracks. Bins are provided at the Station House.
  • Please respect our environment and our neighbours as you enjoy your Velorail Experience.

Follow Instructions

  • Turnaround manoeuvers are carried out at the end stations by operating personnel only. Please follow their instructions at all times.
  • The Operators and Management of Velorail reserve the right to cancel any booking or departure where: rules are not followed, safety is not guaranteed or for other reasons outside the control of the Operator.
  • All riders use the Velorail facility and equipment at their own risk. The Velorail Owners and Operators take no responsibility for any injury or loss, however caused.
  • Do not dismount the railbike except at the turning locations at the end of the route and then, only under the instruction of staff.
  • Do not attempt to disembark or embark while the railbike is moving.

Be Considerate of Others

  • It is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to crash/bump railbikes into each other. Any user doing this will be immediately removed and denied any further access.
  • PLEASE DO NOT TAILGATE! The minimum spacing between each railbike is 20 metres / 5 seconds at normal cruising speed.
  • Do not place legs or arms outside the railbike when moving.
  • Do not hitch up to another railbike.

Liability and Responsibility

  • Suitable clothing must be worn. Loose or flowing clothing, such as scarves and belts, etc., is not permitted as they may become entangled in moving parts of the railbikes.
  • Suitable footwear for pedalling must be worn, i.e. closed shoes, no flip flops. Boarding may be refused for those with unsuitable clothing or footwear.
  • Before departure, the lead rider must ensure that all riders are properly belted into their seats and that no moving parts (pedals, wheels, etc.) are obstructed. Pay particular attention to children.
  • Compliance with the safety features and instructions is the sole responsibility of the lead rider.
